Supporting Bursaries

Beale Awards, named after our longest-serving Principal Dorothea Beale, are one of the cornerstones of our educational provision at Cheltenham Ladies' College.

Not only do Beale Awards create life-changing opportunities for girls from all backgrounds, they are a two-way opportunity. CLC enjoys a rich cultural heritage, and the diversity of our student body stimulates creativity and intellectual curiosity, both in the classroom and beyond.

We accept applications for Bursaries through our usual admission process, but we also work closely with the Royal National SpringBoard Foundation. Through this relationship, we are proactive in looking for pupils who might not have considered applying to CLC, but who are likely to flourish in the vibrant College environment.

Currently, we offer Beale Awards to about 60 girls, of whom half have a fully-funded place.  This is a significant commitment, which requires an investment of £1.6m every year.  We would like to go further, but we do not benefit from a large endowment to fund this programme so we are limited in what we can achieve on our own.

Together, we can widen access to the transformative opportunity of a College education and your gift, large or small, will really make a difference. There are a number of ways to support the Beale Awards. Please visit our Making a Gift page, or contact us for more information.

Being awarded a scholarship and bursary to CLC quite simply changed my life. I will forever be in the debt of College and the kindness and generosity of its community and donors.

THE BEALE AWARDS IN 24 STORIES

In celebration of the Beale Awards, we invited Guild members who benefitted from fee assistance while they were at College tell us what that opportunity meant to them at the time and how they reflect upon it with the benefit of hindsight; and donors to talk about their motivation for supporting our means-tested bursary programme.
