Project PH

'Project PH' is designed to ensure we continue to make the most of the amazing space within the Princess Hall whilst honouring the vision that was first created nearly 125 years ago when it was built.

There are a number of specific elements that we would like to progress and they include:

  • upgrading the Lectern

  • installing live streaming equipment

  • improving acoustics

Lectern

A new lectern, handcrafted by Sarah Goss, from European oak, for the main stage.

This bespoke piece has integrated technology allowing for easy control of the projector, sound, lighting and the stage curtains directly from the stage. This enhanced flexibility will not only improve day-to-day use of the space, but will also benefit the many commercial lettings that hire the hall for events.

To give a better understanding of the design, below are some of the original drawings, alongside the lectern just after it was delivered:

Filming and live streaming

There are occasions when we want to be able to live stream or record events that take place in the Princess Hall so that we can share these with our wider global community. This year we have recorded both the Christmas and Spring Concerts but currently lack the internal resources to undertake this work in-house.

We would like to be able to invest in our own specialist equipment to allow us to manage these recordings in-house. This will also allow us to develop a programme where our pupils can learn how to operate the kit, learning practical skills in video editing and sound recording, helping to further enrich the creative arts at College.

Acoustics

We would like to improve the acoustics in the hall so that audiences have the best possible experience listening to concerts, choral performances and our stunning musical ensembles.

How can you help?

The Princess Hall is a special place in the heart of College and with your support, we can help make the most of it for generations to come.
